  1. Jason, the part of this process I’m struggling with right now is how you get the word out to people who are prospects at the very beginning when you don’t have a list of clients or prospects. Is it a case of “build it and they will come”? Do you just start a blog/facebook page/pinterest account, tell your friends and family and hope the word spreads? How do you reach people to tell them that you have a newsletter they can sign up for? How do you get them to your facebook page to get them to like it and share it with others?

  2. Hi Traci, great question. First, I think it’s important to point out that it takes time – after 18 months of selling on eBay we only had a list of 125 people. We used the eBay store feature – that lets you collect customer names into an email list. Then we expanded out from there. We used Youtube for a long time and slowly developed a following there, then Facebook, and eventually Pinterest and Instagram. 6 years later we have close to 35,000 names on our email lists. The primary step is to have a website (blog) that you can collect email addresses through – then begin methodically finding ways that will work. Not to sound like a salesman or anything – but our Email Marketing Power book covers a pretty good chunk of the how-to on this topic… hope that helps!
